Richland FHC Director, Richard Allen, Doesn’t Disappoint!

As always, we are offered treats when our FHC director, Richard Allen, gives a presentation whether it is for TCGS as it was Wednesday or at the Richland Family History Center.

This month, he again returned to his favorite website, FamilySearch.org, that just seems to be get bigger and better all the time, especially if you listen to Richard. He always finds the gems and presents us with new and interesting ways to research using FS.org.

Below is a list of the topics he covered followed by a link to a list of all 27 videos on familysearch.org demo’ing the many facets of that ever-growing website. Richard used several of the videos in his presentation but those were just a taste of what FS.org has to offer. Check them out!

Make TCGS a Part of YOUR New Year’s Resolutions

Wednesday evening, Richard Allen, the director of the Richland Family History Center will speak on “FamilySearch”.

In the webinar, “10 Ways to Jump Start Your Genealogy” by Thomas MacEntee, just aired this evening, it was suggested you join a genealogy society and “Get Out!” to freshen your perspective and re-energize your research.

Starting your New Year with Richard Allen introducing us to all that is new with FamilySearch certainly could help us “jump start our genealogy.”

Make a resolution today to attend all that TCGS has to offer. You may be surprised at all you will have gained by December.

Richland FHC Beginning Computer Genealogy Class Begins

Beginning Computer Genealogy  (Using PAF and other computer genealogy programs to record, organize, document, preserve, and print family history information.)  –  7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 22.

This free class will be taught in the basement classroom at the Richland Family History Center.  Please register (so that we can contact you if the class needs to be rescheduled) by calling 946-6637 during library hours (Tuesday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Monday, Friday, and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).

It’s Here! Conference Begins Friday

It seemed so far away and now it is upon us. Yes, the Washington State Genealogical Society’s Annual Conference begins Friday night.

Patricia Walls Stamm has four excellent topics you won’t want to miss:

Dates to Remember

The TriCity Genealogical Society has an exciting line up of meetings coming our way. With this information in front of you and at your fingertips, please mark your calendar and plan on attending these wonderful events.

April 13th we will be meeting at our regular time in our regular location, which is 7:00 pm at Parkview Estates. Janis Littlefield, TCGS Webmaster (among other TCGS hats), will be presenting ‘Computer Age Tools’.

May 4th we will be meeting at the Richland Public Library in the Doris Roberts Gallery. This is on the first Wednesday of the month instead of the second Wednesday of the month. We will be celebrating TriCity Genealogical Society’s 50th Anniversary. The celebrations start at 6:30 pm instead of 7:00 pm.

June 8th we will be meeting at the Franklin County Museum at 305 North 4th Avenue in Pasco. The meeting will start at 7:00 pm. The Franklin County Museum is housed in a Carnegie Library and the building celebrates its 100th birthday in June of 2011.

July There will be no meeting in July. This is the month that we take off to enjoy our summer research trips. Have fun!!

August 10th we will be meeting back at Parkview Estates at 7:00 pm, our regular place and time.

September
There will be no regular meeting in September. Instead, TriCity Genealogical Society will be hosting the Washington State Genealogical Society 2011 Annual Conference. The conference begins Friday night, September 16th with dinner a presentation. Saturday, September 17th will be a day full of activities. To keep updated with the most recent information, check the conference website often at http://www.tricitygenealogicalsociety.org and then click on the link titled ‘2011 WSGS Conference website’.

October 12th we will be meeting back at Parkview Estates at 7:00 pm, our regular place and time.
